SumResearch completed a study on the possible re-use of the ‘Pavilion of Urban Development and Social Housing’ of the World Expo of 1958. After the Expo, this pavilion, originally built by 'De Coene", had been dismantled and partially reconstructed in Kortrijk. The building is listed as a monument since 2005.
Apart from a historical research into the context and history of the remarkable architecture, we focused on the value as a monument by analysing the original concept, which is based on a succession of different volumes. The route, generated by these is essential to evaluate the original value of the building.
Based on this research we conceived several proposals for the valorisation of the building, respecting its value as a listed monument.
